I commend you on how clean all the scans look; everything is nice and smooth. However, I'm noticing a drop in some of the feature quality in that comparison image; like with the eyes and lips--they are dulled in color and shine. The necktie has all but lost its color. I suppose this won't matter much with B&W pictures, but I think having all the detail present is better even than having it look cleaner.

I think it's a matter of the coloring being dulled, instead of it being wrong. You've done an excellent job cleaning up the images, but the method(s) you used seems to have removed some of the vibrance from certain places. In the comparison picture above, the sparkle in her eyes and the sheen on her lips add extra depth to her appearance. The necktie looks like it's kinda washed out, as if it has been color-filtered too much. I hope I'm making sense here; I'm not sure how else to explain it, haha.
